  • Statement:

I am offering my services to help KPFK continue to evolve and thrive. I have a diverse professional background that I hope will assist the Board.

If elected my main goal would be to improve the radio stations financial situation so we can reduce fundraising drives and hire and maintain quality programers, and key professional support staff (station manager, accountant/auditor, etc).

My second goal would be to increase membership by increasing social media profile and improving our programming.

Third, I would focus on increasing our young adults participation and membership in Pacifica. If we are going to continue to grow, we need more young and active listeners who are willing to improve our future.

Fourth, there are so many excellent and innovative podcasts available now for listeners. We need to either recruit these podcastors or emulate them to reinvigorate our station.

Please consider voting for the great candidates I am running with from The Committee to Strengthen KPFK. See them at CandidateSlate.org.

    Answers to Candidate Questionnaire

    1. What experience, connections, skills or traits would you bring to the local station board to advance the station's mission?
I have been practicing law as a civil rights and personal injury attorney in Los Angeles for about 35 years. I am also a trained mediator. I operate a small business. I can assist the board in legal issues, offer to mediate personnel or business disputes, and bring my awareness of running a business to the board.

    2. What do you appreciate and value in the station's current operations?
Mostly, I appreciate the passion, the integrity and the empathy of the listenership.

    3. What would you like to see improved or changed in the station's current operations?
I'd like to see an increased focus on professionalism at all levels while maintaining the creativity and spontaneity of the broadcasts.

    4. Describe what you anticipate would be your top three priorities or areas of focus if you were elected to the local station board.
      1. Improve our financial condition so we can reduce fund drives;
      2. Increase social media awareness in the public of KPFK and
      3. emulate or bring in new programmers & podcasters to broaden our base and attract younger listeners.

    5. Sustainability is an important part of any nonprofit operation. What are your thoughts on how the board can help to improve the station's financial footing?
I assume the National Board has policies that govern our options in this area, so my thoughts are to work with the Pacifica National Board to broaden the options that may be available to KPFK so the listeners are not besieged by the constant pleas for funds.

    6. Is there anything else you would like prospective voters to know?
      I will do my best.
